Selkirk Mountain Helicopters Ltd was founded in 1991 and operated by Gerry and Linda Richard for over the next 15 years. Through ingenuity, creativity and excellent customer service, the Richard’s built longevity for this small company.
In 2006, the company was purchased by Jaime Ryga. Jaime was also the first employee of Selkirk Mountain Helicopters from 1991 to 1993. He began as an apprentice engineer and later pursued his pilot’s license, first flying an Enstrom doing scenic flights for Selkirk Mountain Helicopters.
After leaving Selkirk Mountain Helicopters, Jaime expanded his flying experience from light helicopter in Northern British Columbia and North West Territories and then returning to Southern BC Mountains to flying intermediate Helicopters.
Next he worked for Alpine Helicopters as a Heliski pilot in the winter and forest fire pilot in the summer on Bell 212 mediums for 8 years.
Since the change in ownership, the company has been changing direction from operating Bell Long Rangers to Eurocopter AS350 helicopters.
Under the new ownership Jaime has maintained a focus on safety and customer service as did the previous owners.
Currently, the company operates 3 AS350 B2 Helicopters with the Honeywell LTS101-700D-2 engine. In the fall of 2015 we added a 2007 AS350B3+ for its extra external lift capabilities.
